The thing that always got me was the varience in the motor speed between sessions: I could never count on being in tune exactly. The 4-track cassette helped me to move on to doing my own music how I wanted to do it.

The down side to digital for me is that all of your mistakes are very clear as well :)

It's interestng to compare those recordings to what is doable on digital recorders today.
