As far as the writing: definitely. I just don't think of those relationships much. And enharmonics mean little (or nothing) to me. I'll have to dig up the chart and post it. I try to not use the same mode or scale if the same changes roll around...

I don't know if this helps, but I choose tunes that contain a section of harmonic flavour that stands out from others ... I live in a part of the world that's dominated by folkies - that means that often people will play G, C and D all night long ...

Playing with other musicians in the same room

I am a closet musician. But I don't really want to be. I just lack some self confidence. Tomorrow, Friday July 3rd, I am playing some of my original material with a drummer I have played with for many years, but more importantly, a bassist and keyboardist that I have never met. They responded to an ad on Craigslist and LOVED my music!!! I don't want to enter into this with a ton of expectations, but my goal is to get a gigging group playing my originals, new originals, and some of my fusion favo… Continue

Astrologeology Rough

This is a tune on my new CD (due out in the future!). At this point its still me, working out some ideas with my new Roland VG Synth. Three input sources- synth, lead sound, clean sound. Guitar- Carvin Fatboy with Custom pickup.

This tune features Joel Taylor on Drums and David Hines on Bass.

Lost in Inner Space!

Where in the hell have I been!?!?!? Lots of life happening around me and to me.
-I am 4 solos away from completing the recording of my CD.
-I got into building guitars recently. Lots of fun and a great learning process, but time consuming.

There are so many wonderful people, musicians, types of music, etc, out there! Get out and Experience Life! I sit in my office too much and its depressing.

Recently saw the Scott Kinsey Group wtih Scott Henderson on guitar!!! Talk about improvising! These gu… Continue

Notes about "Somewhere" plus project update

This was my creation over the weekend. Not so much an improvising guitarist as an improvising engineer on this one. My friend wanted to sing this at her neice's wedding : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu5QPVD427o but there didn't seem to be a backing track in existence. Stupidly, I said I could do it. I used a strat copy with no electronics or finish or anything except the GK-3 synth pickup into the GR-20 synth. Tracked a few takes..made a few edits...added some delay...played bongos, clapped m… Continue

I think I have uh... terrible uh... diction

Just blame Larry!

I uploaded another song from our Christmas Album "if you insist on living in the present, we're going to need a bigger box". Its the first tune Eric and I ever wrote together and a "polished" version will appear on the upcoming AADI realease. This one has Seabrien on drums and Mark Fassler on bass.

I'm also uploaded another BCM tune. This one features Loton on bass and myself on guitar with a guest appearance by Mac Hine on drums (he's played with everyone!!) This is more ind… Continue

"Jam #1 - New Collective" is very nice!

I sure wish I could do something with other people. It gets old being a one man band all the time. And it is very limiting.

Anyhow, nice stuff. I hope you can do more in the days to come.

Hey, thanks for being my 1st friend. Neat tunes. Some of your synth tones remind me a bit of my days of twiddling with my GR-50. I still own it but have not used it in a while, it's the computer these days. I like your "Airplane!" !

Thanks for writing me. The studio recording engineer was Greg Kutcher. (George Clintons engineer) The song was added to a Jimi Hendrix CD released in Japan called (Return of The Gypsy).
It looks like you have a nice studio yourself. Keep on Jammin.

Thank you so much for all these kind words...
As far as equipment is concerned, I'm a little bit on the "keep it simple" side.Three or four good pedals (a vintage Tube Screamer, a Barber Direct Drive, an good delay and chorus) and a Tech 21 amp should be enough. However, the tracks were recorded with Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 because it's easier that way...The guitars are a couple of good strats (fretted an fretless copy), a Les Paul, a Lakewood acoustic and a Hohner fretless bass.

What can I say? I'm Jekkle & Hide. ;-)

I thought you might like "Wild Ride". "Indian Taxi Cab" is all built around some free drum loops I downloaded off the net and pasted together. I did the drums, then bass, then the guitar. It's kind of clunky, but I had fun with it. :-)

Well, thanks YL. I seem to do dark and moody well. Thanks for the compliments on my tones, too. I've developed my "signature tones" over the years. Check out "Wild Ride", that's a fun one, too.

Well... of course it's not what you envisioned. I'm not you! ;-)

Glad you like it. On this tune, I was picking out certain deliberate notes that are within the chord shapes I am using. Kind of the notes that jump out at me from those chords. And then I used certain scales to bridge the chords together. The I tried to turn that all into something that is melodic. I have another version with a clean lead guitar, but it just feels too whimpy to me, it doesn't convey the feeling of the tune enough for me.

It's interesting that you used the term "haunting" in reference to my tunes, other people have said similar things.
