This is something I initially recorded on 5/8/09, right before leaving on a short weekend vacation. When I returned, I added the keyboard part to it and then my friend in Texas added the drums to it. I like how it turned out, I like the feel of it and the tone of the guitar. This is another example of what I call "intervallic composition", where a lot of what I'm playing is strictly certain intervals between two strings.
On this one, I'm using a vintage Colorsound wah circuit that I built myself in an authentic Colorsound wah shell that I acquired as a partial trade for some work I did on someone's wah pedals. Anyhow, I have it active throughout the whole tune, but it's left at a certain setting most of the time. I have grown to really like this Colorsound wah pedal, I like it as much as my vintage Maestro Boomerangs now. The guitar is my "SpankenStrat" with DiMarzio FRED on the bridge and Fender "Hot Noiseless" pickups in the middle and neck positions. I was using the neck pickup for this recording.
Anyhow, I named it "The Journey" because I was reflecting on my life and all of the different journeys I have been on thus far. I have now embarked on a new journey with an uncertain destination, and a new chapter in my life is now being written. I am determined to keep pressing forward in spite of all the nasty curve balls life has recently thrown my way. Life a lot of times is not so much about the destination as it is the journey in getting there.
